Battle of the RC Monster Trucks

OFNA Titan
HPI Savage 21
Tamiya Terra Crusher
Traxxas TMaxx

The last craze in the rc hobby seems to be the big, nitro powered, monster trucks.

Popular companies such as OFNA, HPI, Traxxas, and Tamiya are battling to out do each other. Let the battle of rc monster trucks begin!
OFNA Titan

First to go is the OFNA Titan RTR nitro monster truck. Here are the specs.
# Double Decker chassis
# 2-speed transmission
# 22 Inch Chassis (bumper to bumper)
# 250cc Fuel Tank
# Oil Filled Coil-over Shocks
# Front And Rear Chassis Braces
# Painted And Trimmed Body
# Full Ball Bearing Set
# Front & Rear CVA’S
# Fully Adjustable Suspension
# Center Slipper
# Low-profile Radio Tray Box
# Force .25 Pull start motor
# Large wheels W/high-grip tires
# Included Glow Igniter
# Includes Glow Plug

Awesome truck. It comes assembled including the Airtronics Blazer Sport AM radio.

However the street price of $599 makes it slightly more expensive than its competitors. But looking at the specs, 2-speed transmission, full ball bearings, oil filled shock absorbers, .25 size nitro motor, and Airtronics radio control system make the price worthwhile.

An assembled and ready to run monster truck from HPI racing.

# Nitro Star 21BB engine
# Huge suspension arms
# Rubber sealed ball bearings
# Metal gears in critical areas
# Shaft drive system

Powered by a .21 rear exhaust nitro engine AND a 2-speed transmission, this nitro truck has both low speed power and high top speed.
Street price: $459
Tamiya Terra Crusher

Any rc car or truck made by Tamiya is perfect for beginners. Excellent instruction manuals and precision modeling makes building a Tamiya model easy and fun. Anyways the Terra Crusher already comes assembled, ready-to-run (RTR). By the way, speeds in excess of 35 mph!
Street price: $400 plus.

# Pre-painted
# Pre-assembled
# Fuel pump
# 2-speed automatic transmission
# Forward and reverse
Traxxas TMaxx

At 1/10th scale, the TMaxx is slightly smaller than the 1/8th scale monster trucks of OFNA, HPI, and Tamiya.

But at 40 miles per hour, this truck is tough to beat.
Street price: $459
# TRX 2.5 racing engine
# T-6 aluminum chassis
# 1/10th scale
# 40 miles per hour
# Ready to run
And the Winner Is…

The Tamiya Terra Crusher.

Let me tell you why.

At 1/8th scale, it is big. Bigger than the 1/10th scale TMaxx.

It also has a 2-speed transmission, with forward and REVERSE. While other monster trucks have 2-speed transmissions, not all have REVERSE.

And finally, it is a Tamiya.

Second place, I would choose the HPI Savage 21.

Third place would be the Traxxas TMaxx.

Fourth place would be the OFNA Titan.

But all of the trucks are good, and this review is just my personal preference. If you love the looks of the OFNA Titan, or the smaller Traxxas TMaxx, by all means buy them. They are all awesome rc monster trucks.
